Why three ingredients, and why these three
When we started tasting our way through the beetroot shots already on the market, two things kept coming up. The flavour was hard work, and the price often made no sense.
On taste: for us personally, and for a lot of the athletes we spoke to, drinking one felt like something to get through rather than something to enjoy. We heard the same story more than once. Shots that were rough going down, that some people could barely finish.
On price: we kept finding shots that cost a small fortune, and we couldn't see the reason for it. Good beetroot shouldn't be a luxury.
That became the whole point of Back2TheRoots. We didn't want a shot you brace yourself for, or one you have to think twice about buying. We wanted one you actually look forward to and can drink day after day, made from ingredients we're proud of, at a price that makes sense for everyday life.
Three ingredients, organic, and nothing else
We kept the recipe to three ingredients, all organic, and spent our time getting the balance right rather than the ingredient list long.
Beetroot is the base. Earthy and deep, with a natural sweetness that carries the whole thing.
Ginger brings warmth and a bit of a kick, and it stops the beetroot from ever feeling flat or heavy.
Lemon is what lifts it. It cuts through, keeps everything bright, and takes the edge off that raw, muddy note that puts so many people off beetroot in the first place.
That last part mattered more to us than anything. We wanted a shot that tastes clean and fresh, not like something you're enduring for its own good. That's how our beetroot, ginger and lemon shot came to be.
